the artist behind stone metal arts

#selfportrait #scrapbooking #scrappin #s

My name is Jane Gaona, and I am the artist behind Stone Metal Arts.

All of my pieces are completely one-of-a-kind and hand-fabricated with my own hands.  From rolling sheet silver from ingots I pour myself, cutting, sawing, filing, hammering, grinding, sanding, and soldering all of the metal, and even cutting and shaping some of my own stones. That is something rare these days and I take great pride in saying that.

My Story

I started making jewelry 5 years ago, starting with beading, wire wrapping, and metal stamping.  After my mother’s sudden death, I decided to do something I had always wanted to do.  I took a Metalsmithing class from a local studio.  Three years later, I now work out of my own studio, specializing in contemporary “Art Jewelry” or “Wearable Art”.

I enjoy making unique one-of-a-kind pieces of jewelry, where each piece stands on its own.  I love the look of a “grungy” rustic piece, and then get excited about a highly polished piece.  I love working with semi-precious stones and then turn around and make something with stones found right out in the desert or in a creek-bed.  I prefer to design in an organic and unstructured style, experiencing the free-flow of thought and process along the way.  Many of my pieces are composed from mixed media, utilizing things found in construction sites paired with shiny objects.

So what can you expect from me in the future? All of the above! Don’t box me into a certain category, because the next project, I may surprise you!
