I find inspiration from various places, and this just happens to be one of those inspirational pieces.

I constructed the majority of this piece over a year ago. I made the basic components but it didn’t feel right. Fast forward.... this piece finally feels right. I made some modifications and gave it a beautiful patina. But the reason it felt right this time was because my HEART was in it.

I watched the documentary film “My Octopus Teacher” and it blew my mind!! The film details the unusual relationship that developed between a burnt-out documentary filmmaker, Craig Foster, and an Octopus, taking place within a kelp forest off the coast of South Africa.

I learned from the film that Octopus are playful, resourceful, inquisitive, and emotional! They have this amazing ability to camouflage themselves to escape predators by rolling up in a ball, or by grabbing empty seashells with their suction cups and covering themselves up with the shells like a big “mound of gladiator shields”!

Most people know they can squeeze into tiny crevices, and regrow tentacles, but perhaps the most surprising highlight of this film, was the relationship that blossomed between the octopus and the film maker. I don’t want to ruin the surprise but I have to say, it brought tears to my eyes.  I loved this film so much I had to share it with you.

This is a must-see film and is available on Netflix.  I do hope you catch this film over the Holiday Season, and perhaps this piece of jewelry will speak to you in ways you never thought possible.

This piece is remarkably lightweight, made from sterling silver with a fine patina, and a beautiful sea-blue colored sea glass.  It hangs from a silver wire collar, but also comes with two beautiful matching ribbons to hang at mid-chest level.

The piece itself is  4" x 1.25" and only weighs .48 oz
